HSH Prince Albert II and HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco led fellow Olympians and more than 400 children in a series of activities to support the 2015 International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP).

The royal couple were present not only in their roles as Head of State and First Lady of Monaco but also as Olympians and sporting icons in order to drive home the positive values of sport and instil respect and solidarity amongst the next generation of athletes.

Prince Albert, who is an IOC Member and Patron of the WOA, represented Monaco in the bobsleigh at five consecutive Winter Olympic Games from 1988 to 2002 and Princess Charlene, a South African swimmer who competed at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, encouraged those present to show their support for the #WhiteCard for peace campaign, the mass social media campaign which was launched by Peace and Sport for IDSDP 2015 on April 6.

WOA President Joël Bouzou, who attended the event in Monaco in his duel capacity as President of Peace and Sport, said:

“It was remarkable to see so many children getting involved and grasping the significance of the day and what it means to follow the values of fair play, respect and solidarity. The grace with which HSH Prince Albert II and HSH Princess Charlene encouraged the young people in the activities in support of IDSDP 2015 was truly inspiring and showed the Olympic spirit in action.”
