Czech Olympians to Receive Free Medical Care

A new scheme has been unveiled in the Czech Republic which will provide ongoing medical support for the nation’s Olympians. The National Sports Health Centres, which have been set up in four different locations around the country, including in the capital Prague, will offer free medical care to retired Olympians and other national athletes.

The programme is being run by Jaroslav Vetvicka, a member of the European Olympic Committee Medical Commission and former Chief Medical Officer for the Czech Olympic Team. Services will include diagnostics, preventative check-ups, surgical procedures and rehabilitation.

Czech Olympic Committee Sports Director and member of the Czech Republic NOA, Martin Doktor, said:

“The main aim of these centres is to provide accessible, high quality medical care for all the members of the Czech Olympic family. We are talking about a premium service for the former athletes who have served their country so well on the sports fields and stadiums of the world.

“Athletes often have highly specific medical requirements both during and following their careers which are not always covered by insurance companies so we want to ensure all our athletes continue to be protected post-career and have access to excellent medical care.”
