Olympic values celebrated in Netherlands

5 | 2 | 2014

An Olympic Museum in Amsterdam is helping to the spread the word of the work of the Dutch National Olympians Association.

The Olympic Experience offered by the Museum gives children the chance to follow the Olympic Education programme and learn the facts on doping, fair play, friendship and respect. A variety of events are also on offer for school visits, child birthday parties and other special events during school holidays.

Visiting schools have the opportunity to combine their Museum visit with a tour of the Olympic stadium and participation in sporting events. Children are able to discover the Museum themselves, take part in junior quizzes about the Olympic Games and tackle the IOC’s booklet on ‘How Well Do You Know the Olympic Games’.

Also on offer for visitors is the screening of two special movie programmes, ‘Marathon Girl’ and ‘Joey’s First Fight’, which form part of the Olympic education programme and are a further example of the power of Olympism.

It is hoped that cooperation between the Museum, the Public Library in Amsterdam and local sports clubs will lead to development of future activities for young people, like the annual Second World War commemoration on the 4th May 2014.
