Registration Open for Americas Masters Games

26 | 2 | 2016

The countdown is underway for the inaugural Americas Masters Games, which are taking place in Vancouver, Canada later this year. With less than 200 days to go, event organisers are urging elite masters athletes from around the world to sign up for the new global multisport event.

Taking place between 26 August and 4 September 2016, the nine-day festival of sport is designed to promote an active and healthy lifestyle by encouraging participants aged 30 and above to continue to strive towards sporting success, and have fun in the process. It is expected that up to 10,000 athletes, supporters, coaches, spectators, family and friends will descend on the city, which hosted the Olympic Winter Games in 2010, to participate in the event.

The 24 sporting disciplines, which range from Archery to Volleyball, will be staged at iconic venues throughout the city of Vancouver and will be free for the public to attend. The sporting disciplines will also be split into different levels of competition and by age to allow those competing for the first time or returning Olympians and high performance athletes to test themselves against the best in their category.

The event is designed to complement the World Masters Games, which next take place in Auckland, New Zealand in 2017, and create a regular opportunity for masters athletes worldwide to compete in the Americas region.
