WOA Secretary General Tony Ledgard OLY will officially open the 2nd Olympians Associations of Asia Meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia on 20 August 2018, where he will be representing WOA President Joël Bouzou OLY and the WOA Executive Committee.
Thirteen National Olympians Associations from across Asia will join World Olympians Association for a two-day meeting. “With back to back Games in Asia, we have an unprecedented opportunity to advance the practice of Olympism in society and to leave a positive and lasting legacy for future generations. It is up to us, as Olympians, to grasp that opportunity,” said Tony Ledgard OLY.
With less than two years to go to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and following the exceptional Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang earlier in the year, as well as with Beijing 2022 on the horizon, the Asia region is in the midst of an unprecedented opportunity to help shape the future development of the Olympic Movement.
WOA recognises the important role Olympians can play to support this increased growth by advancing the practice of Olympism, promoting the positive impact of sport in society and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. “WOA is working closely with NOAs throughout Asia so that Olympians are empowered to become an even more powerful force for good across the region, said Tony”
The forum, hosted by WOA with the support of the Indonesian Olympians Association and the Indonesian Olympic Committee, aims to provide a platform for NOAs to discuss how they can work together - and in collaboration with National Olympic Committees and Athletes’ Commissions - to inspire Olympians to promote the Olympic values as ambassadors of sport and leaders in their communities.
WOA President, Joël Bouzou OLY, said:
“As part of our strategic priority to enhance the development of NOAs worldwide, with a particular focus on Asia in the lead up to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, we are delighted to bring Olympians together for the 2nd Olympians Associations of Asia forum. I would like to thank our hosts the Indonesian Olympians Association and National Olympic Committee for their warm welcome and outstanding hospitality.”
