Olympians Associations supporting their communities during lockdown

24 | 4 | 2020

Around the world Olympians through their National Olympians Associations are working with their NOCs and Athletes’ Commissions to run projects that use the power of sport to help their communities during this difficult Covid lockdown period.

In Bermuda, for example, the Bermudan Olympians Association and Athletes’ Commission are running the ‘At-Home Workout’, where Bermudan Olympians film clips of how they are training at home, inspiring fellow Bermudans to stay fit and active during the lockdown.

Similarly, Puerto Rico’s NOA and Olympians have teamed up with their NOC’s Athletes’ Commission to run a project called #AthleteMotivationChallenge. This involves celebrities, including Olympians, sharing messages of support and motivation to future Olympians to lift their spirits.

GB Olympians are working with Team GB and the British Red Cross to promote the #IsolationGames, which is a campaign challenging Olympians and the public to share funny and creative clips recreating the Olympics at home.

This Sunday, they are also encouraging people to get involved in the 2.6 Challenge, a Covid-time replacement for the London Marathon which is asking people to think of an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 to raise money, anything from a 2.6 mile run to 26 laps of their garden.

There are plenty of other Olympian-led projects going on around the world which demonstrate how important the Olympic ideals are for their communities and that while we may be isolated from each other, we are still in this together. Let us know about what you are doing in your community by tagging us @worldolympians, so we can publicise your great work.
