Cabo Verde Olympians strengthen communities through sport and solidarity

The National Olympians Association (NOA) of Cabo Verde is making a positive impact through a series of community initiatives, bringing people together, supporting young people and promoting the Olympic values of friendship, respect and excellence.
Under the leadership of NOA President Ismenia Fredérico OLY, the Association continues to demonstrate how Olympians can make a meaningful difference beyond the field of play, using sport as a platform for social inclusion, education and solidarity.
Supporting young people through education
In September, to mark the beginning of the new school year, the Cabo Verde NOA organised a solidarity campaign to collect school supplies and sports shoes for children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
With the support of the local community and municipal authorities, the initiative helped ensure that students could return to school with the materials and appropriate footwear they needed, giving them a positive start to the academic year.
The campaign highlighted the importance of community solidarity and the role Olympians can play in creating opportunities for the next generation.
Raising awareness through Pink October
The Association has also supported Pink October, the international breast cancer awareness campaign, through a community initiative involving teachers and parents of secondary school students.
By bringing together members of the school community, the activity aimed to raise awareness of breast cancer and encourage collective engagement with an important public health issue.
Bringing generations together through sport
As part of the celebrations marking Cabo Verde's National Sports Day in November, the NOA is joining forces with the Institute of Sport and Youth to organise a large community walk, followed by a mass aerobics session.
The initiative, particularly aimed at young people and older adults, forms part of the Projeto Movidoso, which promotes active ageing and strengthens connections between generations through physical activity.
By encouraging people of different ages to participate together, the event will celebrate the power of sport to promote health, wellbeing and social inclusion.
Celebrating solidarity and Olympic values
Looking ahead to the festive season, the Cabo Verde NOA is also preparing a special Christmas solidarity event in the interior of Santiago Island.
The planned celebration will bring together community members of all ages through traditional games, inspiring talks with Olympians, theatre performances and poetry recitals.
Designed to encourage sharing, cultural exchange and intergenerational connections, the event aims to create a memorable day of solidarity and togetherness.
Olympians making a difference
Through these initiatives, the Cabo Verde NOA continues to demonstrate the important role National Olympians Associations play in their communities.
From supporting education and raising health awareness to encouraging active lifestyles and bringing generations together, the Association is helping ensure that the Olympic values continue to inspire positive change long beyond the Games.
Once an Olympian, always an Olympian.
