Last weekend 24 African NOAs met in Egypt to discuss the development of the Olympic Movement across Africa.

As part of the meeting, 15 Egyptian Olympians, including Tokyo 2020 Olympians and medallists, were awarded their prestigious WOA OLY certificates and pins by WOA President Joël Bouzou OLY.

The importance of this award ceremony was shown by the Egyptian and African dignitaries attending who formed a guard of honour along with WOA Executive Committee members Amadou Dia Ba OLY, Abeer Essawy OLY and Venuste Niyongabo OLY.

WOA President, Joël Bouzou OLY said: “We are honoured by the presence of Doctor Ashraf Sobhy, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sport, ANOCA President Mustapha Berraf, the Secretary General of the Egyptian Olympic Committee and President of the Egyptian Olympians Association Engineer Sharif Elerian OLY, and the other Egyptian and African dignitaries. Without the generosity and support of the Egyptian government, Olympic Committee and Olympians Association this vital meeting of African Olympians could not have taken place. I would like to congratulate the 15 Egyptian Olympians who have joined the exclusive OLY community. As Olympians we can make the world a better place through sport and through the promotion of the Olympic Values.”
