US Volleyball Stars get behind OLY

Three-time United States Olympian Jeff Nygaard has been honoured with OLY recognition at a special ceremony in Los Angeles.
Taking place ahead of the NCAA collegiate volleyball match between USC – where Nygaard is head coach – and rival university UCLA, the ceremony sought to recognise Nygaard’s achievements on the court and his ongoing work inspiring future generations of athletes.
“It was the privilege of a lifetime to represent the United States in the Olympics. I was blessed to be part of three Olympics. So I especially appreciate this recognition from the World Olympians Association and to be connected to the Olympic community past, present and future. It is a standard I aspire to live up to every day,” said Jeff Nygaard OLY.
Nygaard represented Team USA at Atlanta 1996 & Sydney 2000 as part of the US volleyball team before switching to beach volleyball for Athens 2004. He is one of only four US volleyball Olympians to represent in both disciplines.
The ceremony was organised by USA Volleyball Chair Lori Okimura to promote the OLY to volleyball Olympians in the United States as way of recognising their accomplishments both on and off the court.
The OLY honorary title is for any athlete that has competed in an Olympic Summer or Winter Games. World Olympians Association launched the OLY letters initiative in November 2017 to serve as a constant public reminder and recognition of Olympians’ achievements in the field of sport, as well as a symbolic recognition of their status in society and their commitment to furthering the Olympic values.
