Rwandan Olympians protect taxi-moto drivers

Rwanda Olympians Association (ROA) is helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and supporting its local communities by donating hand sanitizers to more than 700 taxi-moto drivers in Kigali.

As the world celebrated Olympic Day, ROA showed sport is not the only way to share the Olympic values.

Working alongside the Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC), Olympic Day took on added significance as the ROA helped local people in the fight against the pandemic.

Mathias Ntawulikura OLY, Epiphanie Nyirabarame OLY, Christine Mukamutesi OLY, Alphonsine Agahozo OLY, Nathan Byukusenge OLY, Faustin Mparabanyi OLY, Alexis Sharangabo OLY and Pamela Girimbabazi OLY led the initiative and were instrumental in giving out the supplies.

Gervais Munyanziza, representing the Ministry of Sports praised the initiative of ROA and RNOSC:

“The organisers of this activity understand that we need to be healthy to do sport and that we must work together to ensure normality is restored for the people of Rwanda. The hand sanitizers will no doubt contribute towards the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Joël Bouzou OLY, President, World Olympians Association, said:

“At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic I called on Olympians to use their positions as role models to positively impact their communities. The actions of the Rwanda Olympians Association is inspirational and I commend all involved.”
