The following is a joint communication from the IOC and the WOA.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and World Olympians Association (WOA) have held a series of constructive meetings over the past few weeks aimed at deepening their relationship and increasing support and benefits for Olympians all over the world. The two organisations have agreed to develop a new Memorandum of Understanding which will guide their working relationship going forward.

IOC Director General Christophe De Kepper said: “The WOA, its National Associations and Olympians are important ambassadors of the Olympic Movement. By working closely together with the WOA we can ensure that Olympians are properly supported.”

WOA President Joël Bouzou OLY said: “Only by working in harmony with the IOC can we provide the best possible service to our National Associations and to Olympians through all stages of their lives. The deepened relationship with the IOC will help us ensure Olympians are at the heart of the Olympic Movement and that their needs and aspirations are properly catered for by both us and the IOC. We are very appreciative of the support of the IOC.”

A working group composed of IOC and WOA representatives has been established to develop the MOU ahead of the next General Assembly of the World Olympians Association at the end of November in Monaco.
