Children in Chile benefit from WOA partnership

The Chilean Olympians Association has become one of the first National Olympians Associations to benefit from the partnership between the World Olympians Association and Global Sports Development. The partnership will see Global Sports Development supporting the WOA by providing grants of up to USD $5,000 for distribution to National Olympians Associations [NOAs] around the world.

The Chilean NOA are using the grant to fund The Curacautin Children’s Athletics Project, a sports programme that is helping grow school athletics in the southern Chilean city of Curacautin by providing training equipment, sports clothing and trained teachers to support lessons and athletic activities and teach children about the risks associated with drugs, alcohol and sedentary lifestyles.

The programme has so far reached 250 children aged from 10-18 years old.

Sebastian Keitel Bianchi, Olympian and President of Chilean Olympians Association, said: “This grant will help our NOA enormously and we are very thankful to receive it. Together with the WOA we will continue to work very hard to help those who need our support.

I travel to Curacautin eight days a month to teach the children and share with them my experiences as an Olympic athlete. They train three days a week and we recently organised the first inter-school competition which has proved to be a great success.”
