IOC and WOA kick off new era

17 | 2 | 2014

New IOC Sports Director Kit McConnell and WOA President Joël Bouzou met today to discuss the scope of work of the WOA with the IOC for the rest of 2014. Also in attendance were WOA CEO Mike Miller and IOC WOA Liaison Sophie Edington.

On the agenda were key topics including building the organisational structure of the WOA, developing the strength and capacity of the National Olympians Associations, the inaugural World Olympians Forum and harnessing the strength of Olympians around the world to spread Olympic values and bolster their work on projects of benefit to their local communities.

This was the first formal meeting between the WOA and the new IOC Sports Department chief but informal discussions had already taken place. "Its only by working closely with the IOC that we will be able to achieve our goals," said WOA President Joël Bouzou. "The IOC Sports Department under Christophe Dubi was a great help to the WOA and I'm sure now that Kit has taken up the helm we will continue to work together well in order to deliver on the aims of the Olympic Movement which are closely aligned to the aims of the World Olympians Association."
