On behalf of the organisation WOA PresidentJoël Bouzou, has welcomed the Agenda 2020 reform proposals that will go before the IOC Session next month as an important step forward for the Olympic movement.

In a letter written to IOC President Thomas Bach, President Bouzou expressed his delight that athletes and Olympians will remain a priority and at the heart of what the IOC does.

President Bouzou also offered the help and support of the WOA where needed in the key areas that focus on Olympians, principally in relation to enhancing the athlete experience and supporting initiatives that help spread the values of Olympism in communities around the world.

Speaking about the Agenda 2020 proposals, Joël Bouzou, said:

“We wholeheartedly support the Agenda 2020 reform proposals set out by the IOC. It is vital that athletes and Olympians remain at the core of the Olympic Movement. We will do everything we can to support the IOC and maintain and improve the athlete experience at the Games.

“Olympians are the stars of the Games and the ambassadors of the Olympic Movement. We must ensure that they are empowered to spread the core values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect around the world. As Olympians we are in a unique position to be a vehicle for these values and this is an area that we also offer our full support to the IOC.”

The WOA intends to shape its inaugural World Olympian Forum [WOF] around the resulting modifications of Agenda 2020. The inaugural WOF is set to take place in 2015. More details will be announced soon.
