Honour the coach in your life

2 | 8 | 2017

You, as an Olympian, can now submit nominations for the new IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievement Awards, which will celebrate and honour retired coaches who have made an outstanding contribution to the lives of Olympians and the Olympic Movement.

Acknowledging the important position coaches hold as role models, two awards will be handed out to one female and one male former coach, who have participated in at least one edition of the Olympic Games, at the IOC Women and Sport Gala on 9 November 2017.

Coaches play a significant role in the development and success of athletes both on and off the field of play. This award presents a fantastic opportunity to give the coach that has made a significant and lasting impact on your career the recognition they deserve.

Six-time Olympian, triple Olympic rowing champion and WOA Executive Committee member James Tomkins, said:

“Coaches occupy a special place in the heart of all athletes – they are a mentor, a motivator, a teacher, a confidant, and a vital member of your support crew. They provide guidance not only in competition but across many aspects of an athlete’s life.

“This award honours the essential role coaches perform, and provides Olympians with the perfect opportunity to celebrate the special coach in their life.”

If you want to nominate your coach please view the eligibility criteria, complete the nomination form and submit any supporting documentation on the Olympic Athletes’ Hub no later than 15 September 2017.
