Chinese Taipei Olympians Association members led by chairman Huang Zhixiong OLY have visited the disaster-struck National Dong Hwa University to raise awareness and support for reconstruction efforts following the severe damage caused by the recent earthquake. They brought with them supplies and funds donated by Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalists and other renowned Olympians.
President Xu Huiming of National Dong Hwa University, upon receiving the donations, expressed the university’s gratitude saying that the contribution from the Taiwan Olympians significantly boosted the spirits of both faculty and students. He also announced plans for longer-term cooperation with the Chinese Taipei Olympians Association (CTOA) to promote the Olympic spirit.
Hualien was tragically struck by a series of powerful earthquakes from April to May, the largest measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale. These devastating quakes resulted in nine deaths, caused the collapse of several buildings, and inflicted severe damage to the teaching facilities at National Dong Hwa University.
CTOA Chairman Huang, who took the lead in urging Olympians to show their support for the disaster-stricken area, said: “Resilience and a spirt of mutual assistance are key core values of athletes. CTOA stands with you. Our hearts and condolences go out to those that have been affected.”
