5 Days to Go: Australian Olympians Kick Off #OlympicDay Activities

18 | 6 | 2018

Australian Olympians are set to visit schools and hospitals around Australia as part of their Olympic Day celebrations.

In the week leading up to Olympic day, Australian Olympians will be out and about connecting with students in schools and sharing their personal stories to inspire the next generation of Australian athletes.

Dual Olympian in Alpine Skiing, Greta Small kicked off Olympic Day celebrations in Australia when she visited Porepunkah Primary school in regional Victoria. Hayden Smith, who competed in Bobsleigh in PyeongChang, will also travel to his former school to promote the Olympic ideals through sharing his Olympic journey.

Olympians will also be visiting children’s hospitals across the country to bring joy to kids who are suffering from illness and injury.

Australian Olympian Kim Brennan AM OLY, who has won a medal of every colour for Australia in rowing and is also Deputy Chair of the Australian Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission, is one of those playing a key role in this year’s Olympic Day activities.

“I’m a big believer in the importance of taking part in Olympic Day because the Olympic spirit is a powerful way to inspire all of us to be the best possible version of ourselves,” said Brennan. “As Olympians we have a responsibility to act as role models and share that spirit with others. In this Olympic year, we have been delighted by the number of athletes willing to give up their time and invest their energy to help make a difference in their local schools and communities.”

Olympic Day – which takes place every year on 23 June to mark the anniversary of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 - is a day the Olympic Movement comes together worldwide to get active and promote the Olympic values.
