The World Olympians Association is delighted to announce the appointment of Sandrine Billiet OLY as the first WOA Development Officer for Africa.
Building on the successes of Jovina Choo OLY and Amaranta Acosta as Development Officers for Asia and the Americas, WOA is now expanding support to National Olympian Associations across Africa.
Sandrine became an Olympian competing for Cape Verde in the women’s 63kg judo at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. In a decorated international career Sandrine won a silver medal at the 2021 African Championships as well as medals at the European Open and several European Cups. She began her career representing Belgium.
Speaking following her appointment, Sandrine said: “I believe in the Olympic Values, to build and maintain communities, to bring people together, to lead and to inspire. Thanks to WOA I will be able to support Olympians and NOAs in their work and their collaboration with NOCs and Athletes’ Commissions.
Welcoming Sandrine to WOA, President Joël Bouzou OLY said “Our programme of Development Officers has proved a great success in the Americas and Asia. We are excited to be adding Africa to that list and to be welcoming Sandrine to the team.
“WOA exists to support Olympians so I am proud that we are appointing a member of our OLY family to such an important position. I’m sure that Sandrine will make a difference to Olympians across Africa in her new role.”
