WOA President Joël Bouzou OLY has had the honour of being a torch bearer on the 10th stage of the Paris Olympics Torch relay. He ran on the stage through the Gers French Department, which is nicknamed “Little Tuscany” thanks to its quality of life, the beauty of its countryside and its many medieval villages.
Within Gers is Auch, Joël's childhood home, which has been awarded the “Active Sporting City”, “Sport and Health”, “Land of the 2024 Games” and “Olympic Games preparation centre” labels for its citizens active participation in sport.
Joël said on completing his run: “It was so exciting to run with the Olympic torch where I was brought up as a child. This is truly a dream come true. And thankfully my years of modern pentathlon training meant I was still in good enough shape to make it through with plenty of energy to spare.”
This is the first time that a current WOA President has been honoured in this way. And for those of you Olympians, your families and friends and Olympic Family members coming to OLY House in Paris during the Olympic Games this year there will be an Olympic Torch for you to take a selfie with.
