Olympians around the world engaged with their communities on Olympic Day to spread the values of the Olympic Movement and the joy of taking part in sport. Their National Olympians Associations worked with their National Olympic Committees, Athletes Commissions and other sports organisations to run lots of projects. Here are a few of their stories.
In New Zealand there was a sustainability twist to the day. Olympians shared their inspirational stories before they and children from a local school planted 1,375 trees to help rehabilitate a local waterway.
The theme in Japan was “Let’s Move”. And move the members of the Japan Olympians Association certainly did.
460 students and teachers attended the “Be the Next Olympian” programme in Malaysia. The programme, run by the Olympians Association, spells out what the Olympics values brings to peoples’ lives and teaches the importance of safe sports. A brand-new Olympians’ signing wall was unveiled at Olympic House, a tribute to the athletes who have represented Ireland on the world stage. Each Olympian present received an OLY pin, marking their special place within the global Olympic community.
In Australia, WOA Executive Committee Member Nat Cook went to Chapel Hill State School in Brisbane to talk sport and the power of sport to unite the world. About how sport is a language everyone speaks. And how everyone can dream big just like the athletes. And with Brisbane 2032 coming they were really excited, as you can see in this short video.
