Olympic Torch to be on display at Olympians Reunion Centre by EY

As the Olympic Flame continues its journey to Rio de Janeiro, the World Olympians Association (WOA) is delighted to announce it will have the honour of displaying an official Olympic Torch at the Olympians Reunion Centre by EY during this year’s Olympic Games.

The Olympic Flame began its passage on 21 April in Ancient Olympia. Since then it has been making its way around Greece and Switzerland en route to Rio, where the Olympic Cauldron will be lit at the Opening Ceremony on 5 August to signify the start of the Games.

This weekend the Flame was in Lausanne, the Olympic capital and home of the WOA and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), where it was welcomed by IOC President Thomas Bach and Rio 2016 Organising Committee President Carlos Nuzman before going on display at the Olympic Museum.  To mark the occasion the Olympic Museum hosted an open weekend, which included a special presentation and exhibition, a mini relay, creative workshops, film screenings and concerts.

The Olympians Reunion Centre by EY in Rio also has plans to pay tribute to the Olympic Flame, which is recognised as a powerful symbol of peace, union and friendship between communities, by hosting an official Olympic Torch at the venue during Games-time.

WOA President, Joël Bouzou, said it will be a great honour to be able to share the iconic Olympic Torch with visitors to the Centre.

“We are thrilled to announce the news that we will have an official Olympic Torch on display at the Olympians Reunion Centre by EY during this year’s Rio Olympic Games. The Olympic Flame is an enduring symbol of the Games, one that represents unity, friendship and enshrines our desire to spread the message of peace through sport around the world.

“The Olympic Torch will be available for Olympians and other guests to interact and have their photograph taken with so they too can add to the special memories they take home from their time in Rio. The Torch display is just one part of the exciting plans yet to be unveiled for Olympians Reunion Centre by EY, which will offer Olympians a unique Rio experience.”

The Olympic Flame made its journey from Switzerland to Brasilia in Brazil on 2 May. It will now visit every state in the world’s 5^th largest country, covering 20,000km, carried by 10,000 torchbearers and reaching 90% of the Brazilian population before lighting the cauldron at Maracanã Stadium on 5 August.
