World Rugby to Celebrate Rugby’s Olympic Return at ORC

1 | 8 | 2016

Rugby Sevens will make its debut at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the historic moment will be celebrated at two special receptions at the Olympians Reunion Centre by EY.

World Rugby, the international federation for the sport, is hosting the receptions at the ORC during the Games. The events, taking place on the evenings of 07 and 10 August, will bring together rugby’s newly capped Olympians, along with other international stars of the game, members of the rugby family and influential members of the Olympic Movement at the ORC’s iconic setting in the heart of Rio.

World Rugby CEO Brett Gosper said:

“World Rugby is excited and honoured to be returning to the Olympic stage at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and we can’t wait to share this game-changing moment in the history of our sport at the Olympians Reunion Centre by EY. We will soon have a whole new generation of rugby players who will be able and proud to call themselves Olympians and become members of this incredible and very special Olympic family, an honour that I know will be cherished by our rugby sevens stars.”

World Olympians Association President Joël Bouzou, said:

“We are delighted to welcome World Rugby to the Olympians Reunion Centre by EY in less than a month’s time. We are honoured to be chosen as the venue to mark such a momentous occasion for the sport of rugby and look forward to meeting some of our newest Olympians and celebrating rugby’s Olympic return with them.”

World Rugby joins a host of other International Federations and Olympic Family organisations due to stage functions at the Olympians Reunion Centre in Rio during the Games. The ORC’s vibrant and packed schedule of events will ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy.
