Olympians rush to complete WOA’s landmark health study

1 | 5 | 2018

More than 1,000 Olympians have completed WOA’s landmark Olympians Health Study in the first week since its launch to International Federations at the GAISF General Assembly during SportAccord 2018 in Bangkok. The largest ever global study of the long-term health of Olympians attracted responses from all over the world as Olympians demonstrated their keen interest in the study.

With a target of 10,000 Olympians completing the online survey over six months, the strong early response rate bodes well for the study that seeks to examine the musculoskeletal and overall general health of Olympians after they have finished competing. Analysis from the study will be used to inform evidence-based recommendations and best-practice guidelines to benefit Olympians and other elite athletes.

Supported by the IOC Medical and Scientific Commission, the IOC Athletes’ Commission and the IOC Athletes’ Entourage Commission, the study received much positive feedback from International Federations at the GAISF General Assembly, many of whom have now shared the study with Olympians in their sport, encouraging them to participate.

International Ski Federation Secretary General Sarah Lewis OLY and World Rowing President Jean-Christophe Rolland OLY were the first Olympians to complete the health study.

“It is pleasing to see so many Olympians keen to participate in our ground-breaking study,” said WOA President Joël Bouzou OLY. “The high response rate demonstrates that long-term health is an area of clear importance to Olympians the world over. We still need many more responses so I would encourage all Olympians who have not yet completed the survey to do so now and add to this vital piece of research.”

You can access the survey HERE.

By completing the survey Olympians will go into a draw to win a grand prize of an all-inclusive trip for two to Switzerland to attend a special event, along with other great prizes donated by Olympic TOP Sponsors.

Please share this with your NOA members and other Olympians in your network.
