WOA Executive Committee Member Pernilla Wiberg OLY has been honoured in her homeland of Sweden with one of her country’s top sports awards.

Pernilla picked up the Swedish Sports Academy’s Honorary Award at the National Sports Gala in Stockholm on Monday. The award recognises a sportsperson who, through their ongoing efforts, brought admiration and respect and enriched Swedish sport.

Pernilla, a double Olympic gold medallist and four-time world champion, was an iconic figure in alpine skiing throughout her glittering sports career. Off the field, she continues to promote the Olympic values and works tirelessly to strengthen the role of Olympians within the Olympic Movement. Pernilla has been an integral member of the WOA Board since 2012; prior to that she represented her peers on the IOC Athletes’ Commission (2002-2010).

“I would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Pernilla on behalf of WOA for this exceptional award that is so richly deserved. Pernilla has earned respect and admiration for her achievements not only in Sweden but across the Olympic Movement and she remains a great asset in her leadership role within WOA,” said WOA President Joël Bouzou OLY.
