OLYPAN: Panamanian Olympians Inspiring New Generations

OLYPAN (Atletas Olimpicos de Panamá) has been running a notable Service to Society initiative involving workshops that bring Olympic athletes together with children and teenagers in schools. March 26 marked the fourth workshop organized by OLYPAN. These workshops introduce the Olympic spirit to new generations in a personal and hands-on manner.

This initiative was developed by the OLYPAN EXCO, chaired by Barbra Higgins Arana OLY, and formalized at their first annual meeting in June 2024. During this meeting, the Olympians recognised the importance of giving back to society, particularly to young people, by launching a truly inspiring and impactful initiative.

"Connecting Olympians with young people positively influences them, not only through sport, but also through the Olympic values that stay with us throughout our lives."

Each workshop is organised in coordination with a host school and involves a group of Olympians from different disciplines. For approximately two hours, students participate in presentations, discussions, video screenings, and sports activities, facilitating direct and enriching interaction with the Olympians.

The impact of these meetings has been significant. Young people are enthusiastic about hearing real-life stories of hard work and overcoming adversity, while teachers value educational contribution.
