WOA and IOC Meet to Discuss Transition and Next Steps

The World Olympians Association (WOA) Executive Committee met with representatives of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 17 August 2026 to discuss the next steps following the IOC Executive Board's decision to terminate the Cooperation and Licence Agreement (CLA).

The meeting provided an important opportunity for members of the WOA Executive Committee to seek further clarification regarding the decision and to engage constructively with the IOC on the practical arrangements and priorities for the transition period ahead.

The IOC confirmed its intention to continue supporting the core administrative needs of WOA throughout the remaining period of the CLA, including costs associated with facilitating an orderly transition process.

The IOC also provided further information regarding the planned consultation process on the future engagement and representation of Olympians. The consultation will be led by the IOC Athletes' Commission, with the support of an independent professional agency, and is expected to commence in the coming months.

During the meeting, WOA Executive Committee members emphasised the significant experience, contribution and global reach of National Olympians Associations (NOAs) around the world. They highlighted the important role NOAs have played in connecting, supporting and engaging Olympians within their respective countries and communities.

WOA remains committed to representing the interests of its members and the wider Olympian community throughout this period of transition and to engaging constructively in the process ahead.
